Crossing the evocative landscape of towns and villages, one discovers many different forms of craftsmanship whose roots are based firmly in Umbria’s most distant past (dating back to the evidence of the Estruscans’ presence and even further) and which represent, on the one hand, the safeguarding of a cultural heritage otherwise at risk of extinction, while on the other, the opportunity to develop, in productive economic terms, the "ancient arts" to the point of transforming them into ‘new crafts’ that are responsive to the offer of modern occupational outlets, capable of combining antique professionalism with everyday freshness.To be found within the rich panorama of Umbrian craftsmanship are ceramics, textile production, the restoration of antique furniture and real estate, the manufacturing of wrought iron,copper and wood, the designing of artistic stained glass, the production of high quality paper, typographical art and the craftspeople of rope and candles. The "working world" of the time, can be experienced even fuller by a visit to the interior of one of the many workshops, observing how artisans were organised and the statutes that were made in order to regulate relations inside and out of the place of work.
